Stroke survivors are invited to let their creative side run wild at the Stockport brushstrokes group.

The weekly painting sessions are held in Room 31 of the Dialstone Centre on Lisburne Lane, Offerton between 1:30 and 3:30pm.

All abilities are welcome - from beginner to professional.

The Cancer Research Shop on London Road, Hazel Grove is in need of bric-a-brac and general donations.

Bridgehall residents can brush up on skills such as long division and mental arithmetic at a maths course.

It's held at the Sure Start centre on Cuddington Crescent every Monday from 10am.

Children can have fun at a kids club held at Bridgehall Pop-in on Cuddington Crescent.

It's held on Tuesdays from 6:30 - 7:45pm for youngsters aged 5 to 11.

Borough Care Ltd is a not-for-profit organisation, providing specialist care for the older person.

With 12 homes throughout Stockport, Borough Care can offer residential care in a home from home environment, with all the facilities an older person needs. These include assisted baths, disabled access and much, much more.

They are looking for volunteers to help with a range of recreational activities in their homes, including running the residents shop and playing board games. You can choose your own hours and activities.  Your involvement will be much appreciated and you will gain great satisfaction.

CALL is the Cancer Aid & Listening Line and is a local charity helping families affected by cancer.

They're looking for people to help out with a number of services including providing support for a hospital appointment and arranging social activities.

Home-Start is a voluntary organisation and has been running in Stockport for 9 years.

They help families who have a child aged under 5 and who are experiencing problems.

They're looking for volunteers to help the families by visiting them once a week for a couple of hours, to give advice or to give parents a break.

Full training is needed for this and an 8-week course starts in January 2008 for 1 day /evening a week.

Stockport Care Schemes are a befriending service which operates in Edgeley, Gatley, Offerton and Reddish and they're looking for more volunteers.

They offer a very important and personal service by befriending isolated people and also give carers a well earned break. They also help out with transport issues by getting people with poor mobility to and from medical appointments.

Volunteers make life easier for a lot of people in a number of different ways by helping out in situations a lot of us take for granted.

Volunteers are paid out of pocket expenses and don't need to give us a lot of time, it just needs to be on a regular basis.

 


Stockport MIND are looking for volunteer helpers.

It's based at Dove House, Union Street in the Town Centre, and would like people to help out with office work, trips out and its information service. Training will be given.

If you have a bit of time to spare and would like to help a worthwile cause, the Children's Society Charity Shop at the Moor Top, Heaton Moor, would love to hear from you.

Adswood Youth Centre hold a young mums and childrens group - Wednesday morning term time between 11-1pm.

The group is aimed at young mums and children aged between 16 and 25.

They organise various activities and trips out.

 The Stockport Alzheimers Society are looking for volunteers to help out at support groups in various locations across Stockport.

The aim of the branch is to offer support and advice to all those within Stockport who have a form of dementia, their carers, families and friends.

 Help and information for those out of work is offered at Adswood Sure Start on Garners Lane.

Every Wednesday morning it holds a benefits advice session, and on Thursday mornings a representative from Job Centre Plus is available to speak to.

Oxfam Stockport urgently need donations of quality clothes and accessories to sell in the shop, to work towards overcoming poverty and suffering.

They are situated on Princes Street in the Town Centre.

Parents can take advantage of the stay and play sessions now offered at Bridgehall Sure Start on Cuddington Crescent.

Millenium Volunteers is a national award scheme for anyone aged between 16 and 24.

It aims to encourage and support young people to volunteer in their local community, and in return they receive a nationally recognised award.

The Big Deal is a church-based campaign in Greater Manchester, aimed at building community spirit and reducing crime through work with local organisations.

It has the full backing of Stockport Council and the police, and till Easter 2007 it's concentrating on Stockport.

Groups such as the Friends of Adswood Park have already benefited from Big Deal Volunteers, and the organisers are keen to make contact with other groups and offer to help with events and task days.

The Stockport branch of Epilepsy Action welcome anyone affected by epilepsy.

They have guest speakers on related subjects, raise funds and have literature on epilepsy which people can take away and read.

The Stockport branch meet on the 1st Wednesday of each month at the Quakers Meeting house on Cooper Street in Stockport. Meeting start at 7:30pm and end at 9pm.

The Stockport CP Society are looking for volunteers from aged 14 upwards.

The opportunites range from volunteers for day services and charity shops based in Poynton and Heaton Moor.  There are also opportunities for volunteer drivers.

The centre holds post natal group AB Babies every Thursday from 10:30 till midday.

Visitors can listen to safety talks, take advantage of a baby massage service, find information on weaning and enjoy breakfast.

There's a drop in clinic held at the Bridgehall Pop-In on Cuddington Crescent, every Tuesday from 2pm till 4pm.

Visitors can find help with contraception, pregnancy tests and quitting cigarettes, as well as a talk with a midwife.

Disability Stockport are looking for volunteers for its advocacy service.

Interested people would work with local people with a disability, find out what their needs are and help them achieve them.  Full training is provided.

Home Fire Risk Assessment

Have you ever really taken a good look around your home and thought about the danger from a fire?

Where is the risk of a fire starting, what's your safest route out of the house, are your smoke alarms in the right place?

Most of us won't know the answers to these questions but expert help is available and it's free.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service are offering Home Fire Risk Assessment completely free of charge.
