Pure Radio Training

Since the start of the project Pure have linked up with various other organizations to deliver radio training opportunities.

Training for Brinnington residents

Brinnington trainees interview Anne CoffeyThe programme was written specifically for trainees recruited through Brinnington Community First Trust Ltd, a registered charity which aims to represent and champion the area.

Five students were coached through every aspect of making a feature for radio, including script writing, interview skills, recording and how to edit using professional editing software.

BBC Training

We linked up with the BBC and Stockport's Youth Transition Project to provide a unique radio training opportunity for young care leavers.

The BBC Manchester Mentor Project with Pure Radio comprised of a 15-session course at Pure and a slightly shorter course at the BBC. At Pure the team trained the young trainees in skills such as radio presenting, production, editing and interviewing, enabling them to create and put together their own one-hour show for broadcast on Pure.

Running concurrently, BBC trainers worked with and mentored the trainees to help them produce their own 10-minute feature, which was broadcast within the trainees one-hour show on Pure. The feature was also presented at the BBC Mentorship Programme showcase in September 2005.

Stockport College & CSV Media Training

Pure linked up with Stockport College and CSV Media to deliver 3 units from the City and Guilds in Media Techniques to students who were 19+ and working 16 hours per week or less.

The Pure team taught 13 of the 26 weeks of the course in units comprising Radio Journalism, Radio Studio Production, Researching Information and Investigating Media industries. Students were given the opportunity to use Pure's state of the art broadcast studios and create innovative radio programming in order to achieve the qualification, and also were able to take advantage of the purpose-built facilities at CSV Media on Tib Street, Manchester

Students were encouraged to make features and packages, interact with and interview members of the community and address issues that are at the heart of the Stockport community.

The results of their work were broadcast during our November 2004 RSL.
